Good to know

  • Before a counter word, 열둘 shortens to 열두: 열두 개 (12 things), 열두 살 (12 years old).
  • 십이 is written that way but said [시비]: linking (final moves to the next vowel).

How 십이 is built

십이 is 십 (10) + 이 (2). Once you know 1 to 10, Sino-Korean numbers build themselves. In native Korean, the tens have their own words (열, 스물, 서른, 마흔, 쉰, 예순, 일흔, 여든, 아흔), so 열둘 has to be learned.
